Making a new year resolution to join gym is good, but making a resolution in a group to join gym is great. We have a tendency to measure our progress compared to others. That’s why fitness apps focus on creating a community. I have mentioned 4 social fitness apps, chose one of them which suits your lifestyle.
You don’t need to have a Fitbit tracker to use the app, as your smartphone has a pedometer that Fitbit can use to track your steps. The only drawback is that you will have to manually enter other exercises you do. Fitbit is a great app to improve your fitness while competing against your friends. Once you connect with your social circle on the app, you can compete with them with the different activities inbuilt in the app. Besides, Fitbit has numerous fitness challenges that will test your endurance and conviction.
Fitbit has a Community page, where you can join fitness groups that relate to your favorite activities, like running, walking, and hiking. You can share photos of your activity to built trust and engagement with fellow workers around the globe.
2. Nike Run Club
Nike Run Club is filled with features that can motivate your workout activities. Apart from tracking numbers from your runs and throwing fitness challenges towards you, it provides customised coaching that takes you through a program for certain race distances and running events.
The user interface of the Nike Run Club app is easy to use. You can share stats of your runs to the social media. An in-built camera also helps you share photos without closing the app. Location tracking allows you to find nearby running event as well.
PumpUp is made specifically for those who love talking about their workouts. It can be used for podcasting. Although it’s targeted to women, men use the app as well. PumpUp tracks your exercise, and allows you to post photos with descriptions on your profile to share with your followers.
PumpUp’s UI imitates Instagram in its appearance and functions. You can see feed of people you follow. Most posts show a user’s workout improvement, while showcase with healthy eating and infographics. Either way, PumpUp can motivate you to get fit with the thousands of other users. The premium version gives you access to a larger list of workouts, but it’s expensive.
Strava is another great fitness-sharing app. Whether you enjoy biking, running, kayaking, hiking, yoga, or cardio at the gym, this app can track all activities. Strava even tracks your distance, pace, speed, and calories burned.
You can add your friends and family members from phone contact list or facebook. After you complete an activity, you can post your stats on the app and all your friends can see.
Strava allows you to join and compete in challenges against your social circle. Strava loves to recommend local fitness activities other Strava users are engaged in. Subscribe to the premium version and you can see how your time ranks compared to the other users who have used that activity.
